Greenwood Industries, Inc. Founder Establishes Syracuse University Scholarship For Worcester, MA Students with Demonstrated Need

Worcester, MA — Greenwood Industries, Inc. founder, David Klein and his wife, Elizabeth, today announced they have established the George Klein Endowed Scholarship at Syracuse University (the “Fund”). Accepted students with demonstrated financial need, from the City of Worcester, may apply for a scholarship or financial assistance from the Fund. Secondary preference for scholarship recipients are students from Worcester County, Massachusetts, including Southborough, MA, current residence of Mr. and Mrs. Klein and their three children.

George Klein, a native and lifelong resident of Worcester, MA, and his wife Linda, sent their eldest, Tamie Endow, née Klein, and their second child, David to Syracuse University following their graduation from Doherty Memorial High School, in Worcester. George Klein, a second-generation roofing contractor could not have been more proud to have his children be among the first in their family to attend college. David Klein met his future wife on his very first day at Syracuse, and has a son who is an aspiring sports broadcaster, with his sights set on attending the University.

“We are extremely grateful to the Kleins and Greenwood Industries for establishing this scholarship. Now more than ever, Syracuse University is focused on creating the best possible experience for students, and providing them with financial support is a critical component to their success,” says Matt Ter Molen, chief advancement officer and senior vice president for Syracuse University’s division of advancement and external affairs. “A scholarship is an investment in a human being, and we have seen it change lives over and over again.”

Following his graduation from Syracuse University, David and his sister Tamie founded a commercial and residential roofing business, in a small office park on Worcester’s Greenwood Street. Combining his degree in Management Information Systems, which is today called the Syracuse University iSchool, and a hard-earned summer education in hanging shingles, spreading asphalt, and managing teams of more experienced roofing professionals, Klein has been able to grow Greenwood Industries into a multi-faceted construction business, operating in 6 Northeast cities, and this summer landing at No. 9 on Roofing Contractor’s 2020 Top 100 Roofing Contractors.
